Pot-a-peño is a compact jalapeño selection bred for patio pots and hanging baskets. Its small green fruits hang below a dense foliage canopy and can be left on the plant to ripen red, when their flavor becomes sweeter while retaining heat.
## Form and Harvest
All-America Selections identifies Pot-a-peno F1 as a 2021 vegetable winner bred by PanAmerican Seed. It describes a bushy, compact, mounded plant about 12–15 inches tall and fruit that hangs beneath the canopy for easy picking. Park Seed reports a mature width near 20 inches; this is consistent with the current catalog’s 18–20 inch label and rounded 0.5 m width.
## Siting and Growing
Grow in full sun in a warm-season bed or a container with drainage. Peppers generally grow best in fertile, well-drained soil with even moisture. The AAS profile recommends a 10–12 inch container and says staking is not required. Wait until frost danger has passed and nights are warm before moving plants outside.
## Growing and Harvest
Keep the potting mix evenly moist while flowers and fruits develop, without leaving the roots waterlogged. Harvest green jalapeños for their traditional spicy flavor or allow extra time for red fruit with a sweeter, spicy taste. Plants are annuals in garden production and can be used as edible patio ornamentals.
