Create design onlineAbout Santos Red Ornamental Pepper
Santos Red is a compact ornamental pepper selected for red fruit on a uniform plant. PanAmerican Seed lists a 6-inch height and spread, summer bloom season, and sunny exposure, and recommends it for small pots and indoor or outdoor displays.
## Fruit and placement
The fruit is about 2 inches long and matures to red. Use one plant in a 4- to 4.5-inch pot or group three in a 6.5- to 7.5-inch container, following the [breeder's production guidance](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/045603525004463/ornamental-pepper-santos-red/). A sunny bed edge can also show off the upright fruit.
## Growing conditions
Choose full sun and a long, warm season. Peppers generally prefer fertile, well-drained soil; [Utah State University Extension](https://extension.usu.edu/yardandgarden/research/peppers-in-the-garden) recommends regular irrigation and good drainage.
## Maintenance
Water when the soil begins to dry, checking containers more often during hot weather. Wait until frost danger has passed before moving plants outdoors. Keep pots freely draining and remove damaged leaves as needed. The breeder describes the plant as uniform and compact, so routine shaping is usually unnecessary.
