About Sweet Heat Pepper

Sweet Heat is a compact Capsicum annuum pepper selected for an early crop of mildly spicy fruit. PanAmerican Seed’s [product page](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/048300001026129/pepper-sweet-heat/) describes green peppers that ripen red and recommends the plant for containers or in-ground growing. ## Site and Growing Grow Sweet Heat in sun. Its compact, bushy habit and reported 10-inch height by 14-inch spread suit a patio pot, larger container, or garden bed. The breeder lists fruit at about 3.5 to 4 inches long and 1.25 to 1.75 inches wide. [Reimer Seeds](https://www.reimerseeds.com/sweet-heat-pepper-seeds) independently describes the compact F1 selection as mildly spicy and suitable for containers and cooking. ## Season and Harvest The selection is among the earlier peppers to bear. PanAmerican Seed lists green harvest about 40–45 days after transplanting and ripe fruit at 55–60 days; fruit can be picked green or after it turns red. The breeder lists summer bloom. ## Maintenance Give the plant a sunny position and allow enough room for its compact canopy. PanAmerican Seed’s [grower sheet](https://www.panamseed.com/utility/CultureSheetPDF.aspx?pagename=culture.aspx&txtphid=048300001024670&type=Veg) advises avoiding overwatering during production; check container mix regularly and water according to its drying rate rather than keeping it saturated. In a garden bed, keep the root zone evenly supplied with water while fruit develops.
