Tamale is a compact edible pepper in PanAmerican Seed’s [Kitchen Minis collection](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/191109990043302/edible-potted-pepper-tamale/), bred for a sunny windowsill or tabletop patio pot. Its blunt, hanging fruit ripens from dark green to bright red and has a mild, spicy flavor.
## Site and Growing
PanAmerican Seed lists a medium bush habit, sun exposure, a mature height of 6–8 inches, and a width of about 8 inches. The breeder recommends growing it on the dry side and supporting fruit weight with a small stake near the central stem when flowering begins. [Plant Addicts](https://plantaddicts.com/kitchen-minis-tamale-pepper) likewise describes the selection as a compact container pepper for a sunny indoor window or warm outdoor placement.
## Season and Harvest
The breeder lists summer bloom and fruit about 2 inches long by 0.75 inch wide. Harvest green fruit about 80–95 days after transplanting or allow 95–110 days for red, ripe peppers. The thick-walled fruit is promoted for tamales and enchiladas and can also be used fresh or cooked.
## Maintenance
Use a draining potting mix and a container with drainage holes. Let the surface soil dry between waterings, then water thoroughly; avoid leaving the pot soggy. Keep the plant in bright sun and add support as fruit loads develop.
