About Blue Sedge Grass

Carex flacca ‘Burton’s Blue’ is a compact, evergreen sedge selected for its glaucous blue foliage and low, slowly spreading habit. Purple-black flower spikes appear above the foliage from late spring into summer. ## Growth and Siting Use it as a low edging or groundcover in a rock garden or border, allowing room for its gradual spread. The selection tolerates sun or part shade and a range of garden soils; provide drainage while keeping moisture available during establishment. ## Seasonal Care The foliage remains useful through the year in mild conditions. Remove damaged or tired leaves as needed. Its compact scale makes it useful where a taller grass would overwhelm nearby plants. ## Maintenance Water regularly while roots establish, then adjust to soil and exposure. Avoid prolonged waterlogging. [Digging Dog Nursery](https://www.diggingdog.com/genus/carex) describes this selection’s foliage, habit, siting, bloom period, size and zone; [Plant Lust](https://plantlust.com/plants/52699/carex-flacca-burtons-blue/) also identifies the selection and summarizes its evergreen foliage and cultivation.
