Carex hachijoensis ‘Evergold’ is an evergreen sedge grown for its arching leaves, which have a broad golden-yellow stripe through the center and dark green margins. It forms a low clump and produces small, inconspicuous brown flower spikes in summer.
## Growth and Siting
Use it at the front of a border, along a path, in a rock garden or in a container where the striped foliage can be seen close up. It grows in sun or partial shade and prefers moist but well-drained soil.
## Seasonal Care
The evergreen leaves provide year-round structure in suitable climates. Comb out dead or damaged foliage in summer, and divide established clumps when they become crowded. The selection is also listed under Carex oshimensis in horticultural sources.
## Maintenance
Water regularly until established and during extended dry weather. Divide in early summer if needed.
