Carex morrowii ‘Ice Ballet’ is an evergreen sedge selected for its broad creamy-white leaf margins around green centers. It forms compact clumps and spreads slowly by rhizomes, making it useful as a small groundcover or a foliage accent.
## Growth and Siting
Grow it in fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Part shade is preferred; the patent notes tolerance of full shade in warmer climates and full sun in cooler climates. The foliage starts upright and then arches, bringing light contrast to shady borders, woodland gardens and containers.
## Seasonal Care
The patent reports USDA Zones 4–9 at minimum and describes plants as evergreen at least through Zone 5. It records a height of about 38 cm and a three-rhizome division spreading to the foliage edges over two growing seasons, so mature dimensions depend on planting density and conditions.
## Maintenance
Water during dry weather, especially while establishing. Remove dead or damaged leaves and divide clumps when they become crowded. [The plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP20228P3/en) documents the exact cultivar, foliage pattern, habit, size, growing conditions and hardiness. [Chicago Botanic Garden](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-information/plant-finder/carex-morrowii-ice-ballet-ice-ballet-sedge) independently lists the exact selection as a moist-soil, shade garden sedge.
