About Ice Fountains Sedge Grass

‘Ice Fountains’ palm sedge is a clumping Carex with palm-like leaves that emerge bright white and mature to soft green. The shifting variegation and upright-to-arching foliage give it seasonal texture in moist garden settings. ## Landscape use Use it near a pond, in a rain garden, or in a moist border where the pale new growth can brighten the planting. [Hoffman Nursery](https://hoffmannursery.com/plants/details/carex-muskingumensis-ice-fountains) describes the exact selection as useful in rain gardens, bioswales and moist meadows, with clumping roots that help hold soil. The JC Raulston Arboretum also lists the cultivar in its living collection. ## Size and siting Hoffman Nursery gives a mature height of 2–3 feet, flowering in late spring, and hardiness zones 3–9. Provide full sun to part shade with average to wet soil; consistent moisture supports the best foliage display. Plan for its published 2–3 foot height when placing it among shorter perennials. ## Maintenance Water regularly while establishing and keep the root zone from drying for extended periods. Leave room for the foliage to soften and arch as it matures. Remove damaged leaves when needed, and divide clumps if they become crowded. This cultivar is especially useful where a wet-site plant with a lighter foliage pattern is desired.
