Slough Sedge

Carex obnupta is a robust evergreen perennial that forms dense, tufted colonies via an extensive rhizome network. Reaching heights of up to four feet, it features coarse, grass-like foliage and distinctive drooping dark flower spikes. This vigorous grower thrives in wet to saturated soils, including marshes and brackish wetlands, in full sun to deep shade. It is highly valued for erosion control and bioswales, while its tough leaves have a long history of use in traditional basketry and provide essential wildlife cover.
