Evergold Sedge Grass

‘Evergold’ Japanese sedge forms a dense clump of arching leaves with a broad creamy-yellow center stripe and dark green margins. Its bright, low-growing foliage suits a shaded border, groundcover planting, or container. ## Foliage and bloom Kwantlen Polytechnic University describes ‘Evergold’ as an evergreen, arching sedge with brown flowers in mid to late spring. It reports mature height of 0.2–0.4 m and spread of 0.3–0.6 m. The Chicago Botanic Garden lists bloom from March through June and USDA zones 5–9. ## Siting Part shade is a reliable position, while filtered shade or full sun can also work where soil stays evenly moist. KPU recommends well-drained soil and moderate water. Use ‘Evergold’ along a path, at the front of a border, or in a container where its fine, striped leaves can be appreciated. In spring, remove dead or winter-damaged leaves and divide older clumps when they become crowded. Give the foliage room to arch without being buried by taller neighbors.
