About Papaya Tree

‘Red Lady’ is a papaya cultivar selected for early, productive fruiting and thick red flesh. The plant grows quickly in warm conditions, with large leaves gathered near the top of its single trunk. Fruit shape differs between female and bisexual plants, so an individual plant’s form and fruit set can vary. ## Cultivar and fruit The [Known-You Seed product page](https://www.knownyou.com/en-eu/product-detail/1575/) identifies the exact ‘Red Lady’ selection. Its [cultivar data sheet](https://irp.cdn-website.com/947ec92d/files/uploaded/TDS%20-Red%20Lady.pdf) reports vigorous growth, fruiting beginning around 60–80 cm plant height, more than 30 fruits per fruit-setting season, and short-oblong female fruit versus longer bisexual fruit, averaging about 1.5–2 kg with red flesh. The [University of Florida IFAS papaya profile](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/FP106) describes the species’ fast growth, warm-climate needs, and broad mature size; the live 20-foot height and 4–6-foot spread are retained as plausible. ## Siting Grow in full sun and warm, frost-free conditions with well-drained soil and steady moisture. UF/IFAS lists species hardiness as zones 9B–11; the live lower zone 4 is changed to 9, with the upper zone 11 retained. Protect plants from cold and strong wind. ## Maintenance Water consistently during growth and fruit development without leaving roots waterlogged. Watch for whiteflies and other regional pests. Harvest fruit as it begins to color, then finish ripening indoors if needed.
