About Blue Mist Bluebeard

Blue Mist is a compact, mounded bluebeard with powder-blue flowers and aromatic foliage. It brings late-season color to sunny shrub borders and works well where a small flowering shrub can be cut back in spring. ## Flowers and form The [Morton Arboretum profile](https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/trees-and-plants/bluebeard/) identifies ‘Blue Mist’ as a Caryopteris × clandonensis cultivar with powder-blue flowers. For the broader hybrid, [Cornell’s Woody Plants Database](https://woodyplants.cals.cornell.edu/plant/view?id=321) lists a mounded shrub about 2–3 feet high and wide, hardy to zone 5b. ## Siting Give it full sun and well-drained soil. Bluebeards can struggle in wet winter soils, while established plants tolerate dry spells. ## Maintenance Cut stems back in early spring to encourage fresh growth and flowers. In colder climates, some top growth may die back in winter; new shoots emerge from the base.
