[Petit Bleu](https://www.pepinieres-minier.fr/en/produit/caryopteris-x-clandonensis-petit-bleur-minbleu-cov), sold under the cultivar denomination ‘Minbleu’, is a compact deciduous bluebeard with rounded growth and fragrant green foliage. Blue-violet flowers appear in late summer, providing color for borders and smaller garden spaces.
## Form and flowering
Minier describes Petit Bleu as very compact, with blue-violet flowers and green leaves. Its mature dimensions vary across exact-selection references: [Red Butte Garden](https://redbuttegarden.org/plants/species/191/) lists about 3 feet high and wide, while Minier reports about 5 feet high and 3 feet wide at ten years. The botanical name is Caryopteris × clandonensis ‘Minbleu’; “Petit Bleu” is the trade name. Its late flowers can support pollinators.
## Growing conditions
Give this deciduous shrub a sunny position and ordinary well-drained garden soil. Use it in a mixed border or a small-space planting where its rounded outline can remain visible. Leave several feet for the eventual spread and water during establishment.
## Maintenance
Prune in early spring to remove old stems and encourage fresh flowering growth. Remove damaged branches as needed and avoid waterlogged soil. Allow room for the shrub to reach its documented mature spread, which can be broader in favorable growing conditions.
