Create design onlineAbout Columnar Blue Atlas Cedar Tree
‘Glauca Fastigiata’ is a narrow, columnar selection of Atlas cedar (*Cedrus atlantica*) with gray-blue needles. It develops a more upright profile than the broad Atlas cedar species.
## Form and scale
The American Conifer Society describes this exact selection as dwarf, estimating 1–5 feet of growth after 10 years at 1–6 inches annually. The University of Connecticut describes its mature width as about 10 feet but does not give a mature height. Those sources describe different time frames; neither supports a 60-foot mature-height entry. See the [American Conifer Society profile](https://conifersociety.org/conifers/cedrus-atlantica-glauca-fastigiata) and [UConn Plant Database](https://plantdatabase.uconn.edu/detail.php?pid=95).
## Siting
Plant Atlas cedar in full sun and well-drained soil. Utah State University lists the species for USDA zones 6–9 and notes its preference for deep soil at a warm site. Leave room for the columnar crown to broaden as the plant matures. [Utah State University TreeBrowser](https://extension.usu.edu/treebrowser/catalog/cedar-atlas) includes ‘Fastigiata’ among Atlas cedar cultivars.
## Maintenance
Select a permanent location because cedars can be difficult to transplant. Water during establishment and prolonged dry weather, then allow the soil to drain freely. Prune sparingly to preserve the upright leader and remove damaged growth.
