Create design onlineAbout Green Wave Golden Atlas Cedar
‘Green Wave’ is a dwarf, spreading selection of Atlas cedar with blue-green evergreen foliage and a low, layered outline. The American Conifer Society reports that the original plant was a witch’s broom and describes a symmetrical, flattened form; its ten-year size is much lower than the dimensions often reached by larger Atlas cedar forms.
## Form and landscape use
Use it where a broad, low evergreen can be appreciated, such as a rock garden, slope, or the front of a conifer planting. At ten years the American Conifer Society reports about 12–18 inches tall and 6–8 feet wide, with annual growth of roughly 4–6 inches. Allow room for width and avoid placing it where its horizontal branches will be crowded.
## Siting
Provide full sun and well-drained soil. The species-level Virginia Cooperative Extension guide gives Cedrus atlantica a USDA hardiness range of zones 6–9 and describes cedars as adaptable to well-drained soils. The cultivar’s exact hardiness limits were not separately established in the opened sources.
## Maintenance
Water consistently while the root system establishes, then avoid persistently wet soil. Its naturally compact, spreading habit generally needs little shaping; remove only damaged or misplaced branches.
