Create design onlineAbout Kashmir™ Deodar Tree
Kashmir deodar cedar (*Cedrus deodara* 'Kashmir') is a large evergreen conifer with a pyramidal outline, soft silver-blue needles, and drooping branches. Its canopy spreads broadly, so plant it as a lawn specimen or screen with generous clearance from pavement and structures.
## Appearance and growing conditions
The [University of Florida IFAS profile](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/st135) describes a fast-growing cultivar about 40–50 ft tall and 20–30 ft wide, with silver foliage and better cold hardiness than the species. It gives USDA zones 6A–8B, recommends full sun and well-drained soil, and reports high drought tolerance. The profile advises leaving lower branches in place so the natural form remains visible. [Trees and Shrubs Online](https://www.treesandshrubsonline.org/articles/cedrus/cedrus-deodara/) treats Kashmir as a distinct cold-hardy cultivar selected from cultivated plants in Pennsylvania in the 1930s.
## Maintenance
Plant in full sun and well-drained soil, allowing room for branches to spread. Avoid routine pruning that removes lower branches. UF/IFAS reports good drought tolerance and better cold hardiness than the species, though young trees may still suffer top dieback after severe cold.
