Stenocoma is an evergreen cedar associated with the mountains of southwestern Turkey. Oregon State University describes an initially conical crown that becomes more columnar, with slightly nodding branch tips and needles and cones intermediate between other cedar forms.
## Form and Placement
The tree can reach about 60 feet and needs generous room for its crown and roots. Oregon State University recommends sun and notes that the species prefers well-drained, somewhat dry soil. Taxonomic treatments place it either as *Cedrus libani* subsp. *stenocoma* or as the horticultural selection ‘Stenocoma’. USDA GRIN accepts the subspecies name, while Oregon State University notes that the origin and nomenclature are somewhat confused.
## Growing Conditions
Choose an open site with good drainage. The Oregon State profile reports hardiness to USDA Zone 5 and describes Stenocoma as more cold hardy than some other selections of Cedar of Lebanon. Avoid keeping the root zone persistently wet.
## Maintenance
Allow the tree to develop its natural upright outline and make only selective structural pruning. See [Oregon State University’s Stenocoma profile](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/cedrus-libani-stenocoma) and [USDA GRIN-Global’s taxon record](https://npgsweb.ars-grin.gov/gringlobal/taxon/taxonomydetail?id=9697) for its horticultural description and taxonomy.
