About First Flame™ Purple Celosia

First Flame™ Purple (PAS1295065) is a purple selection in PanAmerican Seed’s mid-height Celosia plumosa series. Its thick plume flowers about a week earlier than the Red and Yellow forms and resists fading in high light and heat ([exact cultivar profile](https://www.panamseed.com/products/014506754004341/celosia-first-flame-purple/)). ## Form and display The breeder lists an upright plant about 10–14 inches tall and 10–16 inches wide, with blooms from spring through late summer. The Purple form adds a distinctive plume to sunny borders and containers, and its flowers can be cut for arrangements. ## Siting Grow in full sun as a warm-season annual. PanAmerican Seed recommends First Flame for bedding and landscape use; the [University of Florida celosia guide](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/FP114?downloadOpen=true) describes general full-sun and well-drained-soil care. Wait until frost danger has passed before planting outside. ## Maintenance Keep moisture even while young plants establish and flowering is underway, but allow excess water to drain. Remove faded plumes if desired and clear the plant when the seasonal display ends. PanAmerican Seed’s product page lists hardiness as 45°F; this temperature is not converted here to a USDA zone.
