About Amethyst Dream Cornflower

‘Amethyst Dream’ is a compact mountain cornflower selected for rich royal-purple flowers and softly haired silver foliage. Its spreading, mounded growth and roughly 20-inch flowering height suit the front or middle of a sunny perennial border ([Darwin Perennials](https://www.darwinperennials.com/Products/Details/?phid=014600001022054)). ## Flowers and foliage Large, fringed flower heads appear in summer above the silver leaves. The breeder lists the flowers at about 2.5 inches across and describes the plant as heat and drought tolerant. Its foliage and flower contrast works well with blue, white, or yellow companions. ## Siting and garden use Grow in full sun in a well-drained border, container, or cutting garden. Allow about 27 inches of spread for a mature plant, using that space to keep the mound from crowding neighboring perennials. The breeder reports USDA hardiness zones 3–9 and a summer bloom season. ## Maintenance Water during establishment and during extended dry spells, then avoid persistently wet soil. Remove faded flower stems to keep the planting tidy. The plant is listed as attracting bees and butterflies and is described as deer resistant by the breeder.
