About Bluet Cornflower

Bluet is listed as a named form of mountain bluet (Centaurea montana), a clump-forming perennial with fringed blue flowerheads. Species-level references describe 1 to 2 feet of height and 1 to 1.5 feet of spread; use that range as garden guidance because separate mature-size measurements for the named form are not listed ([NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/centaurea-montana/)). ## Garden Use The upright clump fits cottage and pollinator borders, meadow edges, walkways, and cutting gardens. Plant in full sun with well-drained soil; mountain bluet tolerates dry to medium moisture and poorer soils once established. The species blooms from summer into fall, and its fringed flowers give the planting a bold, informal texture. ## Maintenance Deadhead after flowering to reduce self-seeding and encourage possible later blooms. NC State recommends dividing clumps every two to three years; division also helps manage stolon-led spread. Leave some seedheads only where naturalizing is welcome.
