About Center Stage Red Crapemyrtle

Center Stage® Red is a deciduous, narrow-form crape myrtle with nearly black foliage and cherry-red flowers. Proven Winners lists it at 1.8–3.7 m tall by 2.4 m wide, with spring-to-fall color, summer flowers, and USDA zones 6b–10b; see the [exact plant profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/lagerstroemia/center-stage-red-crapemyrtle-lagerstroemia-indica) for cultivar details. ## Planting This shrub grows best in full sun and well-drained soil; the grower recommends average moisture and cautions against overwatering. Its upright, space-saving form works in a sunny border, low informal hedge, mass planting, or as a specimen among perennials. Allow about 2.4 m of spread at maturity. ## Seasonal display Cherry-red blooms appear in summer against dark purple-black foliage. The foliage and flower color extend the plant’s interest across much of the growing season, while the deciduous leaves drop for winter. ## Maintenance Water during establishment and extended dry periods, then avoid keeping the root zone saturated. Center Stage Red flowers on new wood and generally needs no routine pruning. If shaping is desired, prune in early spring as new growth begins.
