Create design onlineAbout Garden Gems® Amethyst Redbud Tree
Garden Gems® Amethyst is a compact eastern redbud with pink flowers on bare branches before its burgundy-purple, heart-shaped leaves unfold. The selection is identified by the cultivar denomination 'NC2017-6' and suits smaller gardens where a full-size redbud would be too large. [Monrovia](https://www.monrovia.com/garden-gemstm-amethyst-redbud.html) lists a mature height and spread of 8–10 feet and USDA zones 5–9.
## Landscape Use
Use Amethyst as a small specimen tree near a patio, in a mixed border, or in a large container with good drainage. Its early flowers provide the first seasonal display; the dark foliage carries the design later.
## Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun or partial sun in well-drained soil. The [Polish Nurserymen Association](https://zszp.pl/en/plants/plant-novelties-competition-2026/cercis-canadensis-garden-gems-amethyst-2/) describes fertile, moderately moist soil and a sunny position. Water when the surface soil begins to dry, and provide steady moisture while roots establish.
## Maintenance
Redbuds resent repeated transplanting, so set the plant where it can mature. Remove dead or crossing branches as needed, and keep mulch away from the trunk.
