About Traveller Weeping Redbud

Traveller is a compact, weeping redbud selection with arching branches, glossy leaves, and rose-pink flowers. Horticultural references use different botanical placements for this named plant: North Carolina Extension uses Cercis canadensis subsp. texensis 'Traveller', while the RHS lists Cercis reniformis 'Traveller' and marks that name as a synonym. The cultivar identity remains clear ([North Carolina Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/cercis-canadensis-subsp-texensis-traveller/); [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/259633/cercis-reniformis-traveller/details)). ## Form and flowering North Carolina Extension reports a height of 2–5 ft and a spread of 2–12 ft, reflecting the plant’s strongly cascading habit. Flowers may appear in spring and, in some climates, winter. The heart-shaped foliage is green, with coppery tones in new growth. This low, broad outline suits slopes, small gardens, woodland edges, and places where stems can arch without blocking a path. ## Placement Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil; the plant can also tolerate occasional dry conditions. Extension sources describe it as more heat- and drought-tolerant than many redbuds, though less cold-hardy than some related forms. Use the mature spread to provide room for branches to trail. ## Maintenance Water regularly while establishing and during extended dry weather. Remove broken or crossing branches after flowering, and preserve the natural arching framework when pruning.
