Create design onlineAbout Golden Treasure' Cesky Gold® Dwarf Golden Birch
Cesky Gold® is the trade name for the ‘Golden Treasure’ dwarf birch selection. Its new leaves emerge orange-red and mature to shiny yellow; the [Canadian Food Inspection Agency record](https://active.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pbrpov/cropreport/bir/app00009876e.shtml) identifies the selection as Betula × plettkei ‘Golden Treasure’ and documents its breeding.
## Landscape use
Use this compact deciduous shrub as a specimen, low hedge, edging plant, or container accent where its changing foliage can be seen close up. The [Spring Meadow grower sheet](https://springmeadownursery.com/files/resource_files/Betula%20Cesky%20Gold%20Professional%20Grower%20Sheet.pdf) lists a mature height of 0.6–1.2 m and USDA zone 2. It also lists specimen, low hedge, and edging uses.
## Siting and soil
Plant in part sun to full sun. Sun brings out the brightest summer foliage, while partial shade is tolerated. Choose well-drained soil and provide moderate water during establishment and dry spells; avoid leaving roots in persistently soggy ground.
## Seasonal interest
The orange-red spring flush gives way to bright yellow summer leaves, creating color contrast in small gardens. Its compact scale suits borders and mixed plantings where a full-size birch would overwhelm the space.
## Maintenance
Water consistently while the root system establishes, then adjust to rainfall and soil moisture. Mulch lightly to conserve moisture and keep competing weeds away from the shallow root zone. Prune only to shape or remove damaged growth.
