Create design onlineAbout Alum's Lawson Cypress Tree
Alumii Lawson cypress (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana ‘Alumii’) is a narrow, upright evergreen conifer with fine blue-gray foliage. Its formal columnar outline suits a specimen planting or a space-conscious screen where there is room for a tall tree.
## Form and placement
The [American Conifer Society profile](https://conifersociety.org/conifers/chamaecyparis-lawsoniana-alumii/) gives a 10-year size of about 12–18 feet tall and 4–5 feet wide and describes a fastigiate, blue-gray selection. Oregon State University’s [Landscape Plants profile](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/chamaecyparis-lawsoniana-alumii) describes the same cultivar as narrow and upright, with blue-green to gray-blue foliage, and notes that plants can become much taller with age. Allow room for a mature tree rather than treating the 10-year dimensions as a final maximum.
## Siting
Use it as a vertical accent or evergreen screen in a site with adequate room and good drainage. Oregon State lists hardiness to USDA Zone 5. The cultivar sources do not specify a sun or watering schedule, so follow local nursery guidance and avoid assuming a species-wide maximum will fit a small garden.
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and adjust irrigation to local soil and climate. Preserve the naturally narrow outline with selective pruning only if needed; do not cut into bare old wood.
