Pinpoint® Blue False Cypress

Pinpoint® Blue false cypress (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana ‘SMNCLBF’) is a narrow, columnar evergreen with soft blue foliage. Its compact footprint makes it useful where a vertical evergreen accent or screen is wanted without the spread of a broad tree. ## Form and placement The [breeder’s profile](https://springmeadownursery.com/plantfinder/pinpoint-blue-11820) identifies the exact selection as ‘SMNCLBF’, PP#30,707, and lists it at 15–20 feet tall by 5–7 feet wide. It describes blue foliage, a naturally narrow columnar habit, and hardiness in USDA Zones 5–7. The live metric width point is retained as an approximate 5-foot dimension, and the label uses the breeder’s full 5–7-foot range. Plant in full sun or part sun where the mature height fits. ## Soil and water Use well-drained soil and maintain even moisture with mulch. The breeder notes that this selection does not tolerate dry soil or drought, so plan supplemental water during dry periods. It can serve as a specimen, container plant, hedge, or mixed-border evergreen. ## Maintenance The naturally columnar shape needs little pruning. If shaping is needed, prune in late spring and avoid cutting into leafless interior wood.
