Chamaecyparis nootkatensis ‘Sparkling Arrow’ is a narrow, upright evergreen with strongly weeping branchlets and creamy white to yellow variegation. Its vertical outline and bright foliage make it an eye-catching specimen where a graceful, compact conifer is needed.
## Form and growth
The American Conifer Society narrative gives 15 feet tall by 2.5 feet wide after ten years, although its size classification on the same profile lists 5–10 feet after ten years. Dancing Oaks Nursery also gives 5–10 feet tall after ten years, followed by slow growth to roughly 25 feet tall by 6 feet wide. The cultivar originated as a variegated sport of ‘Green Arrow’; reduced chlorophyll makes it slightly slower growing than that parent. Leave room for its eventual size.
## Siting
Choose sun to part shade and well-drained soil. In hot climates, part shade offers an alternative to full sun while keeping the soil well drained. Water during establishment and during prolonged dry periods, while avoiding saturated soil.
## Maintenance
Keep the distinctive leader and cascading secondary branches intact. Remove dead material carefully from the dense interior to improve appearance and air movement, and prune only stray growth that disrupts the form.
