Chamaecyparis Paul's Gold®

Paul's Gold threadleaf false cypress is an evergreen conifer grown for fine, cascading sprays of golden-green to chartreuse foliage. Its slow growth and mounded outline bring lasting color and texture to sunny borders, mixed plantings, and containers. ## Cultivar identity and form The Southern Living Plant Collection and Monrovia identify this selection as Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Paul's Gold'. The foliage keeps a golden or chartreuse tone through the year, and the plant develops a compact, mounded form. Published mature dimensions are about 5 feet tall by 6 feet wide; nursery measurements may vary with growing conditions and time in the landscape. ## Light and soil Plant in full sun or part shade for strongest color. Use moist, well-drained soil, and allow room for the broad, low crown. Monrovia lists the selection for USDA zones 5–8; the Southern Living collection specifies zones 5a–8a. ## Landscape use The fine foliage works as a color accent in a border or mass planting and can soften the edge of a path or container. Its restrained size also suits a low hedge or mixed evergreen composition. Plant it where its gold foliage can contrast with deeper green plants. ## Maintenance This is a slow-growing, low-maintenance conifer.
