‘Golden Mop’ is a slow-growing evergreen false cypress with fine, drooping, thread-like foliage in bright golden yellow. Its rounded, gradually broadening form makes it useful as a specimen, low hedge, or bright accent among darker evergreens.
## Form and landscape use
[North Carolina Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/chamaecyparis-pisifera-golden-mop/common-name/golden-mop-falsecypress/) describes this cultivar as a yellow-needled shrub with finer foliage and slower growth than its parent, ‘Filifera Aurea’. It may eventually reach about 5 feet tall and wide, though it grows slowly; the [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/89776/chamaecyparis-pisifera-golden-mop/details) likewise records a small rounded shrub with golden cord-like sprays.
## Siting and soil
Choose sun to part shade and moist, well-drained soil. More sun generally strengthens the golden color, while good drainage helps protect the roots. The [Purdue Arboretum profile](https://www.arboretum.purdue.edu/explorer/plants/21871/) notes that the evergreen color holds through the year and that mature size can take more than a decade to reach.
## Maintenance
Water through establishment and during extended dry spells, then avoid keeping the soil saturated. North Carolina Extension notes that established plants tolerate some drought. Pruning is seldom needed; allow the fine, naturally drooping shoots to retain their soft outline.
