Create design onlineAbout Kings Gold Cypress
King’s Gold is a compact threadleaf false cypress with bright golden-yellow foliage and a spreading, mounded outline. It is a useful low evergreen accent or group planting where its fine texture can stand out against darker foliage.
## Size and placement
The [Purdue Arboretum](https://www.arboretum.purdue.edu/explorer/plants/21842/) confirms the cultivar identity and family, Cupressaceae. [Prairie Blossom Nursery’s cultivar profile](https://prairieblossomnursery.com/products/chamaecyparispisiferafiliferakingsgold) describes King’s Gold as a compact, dwarf form with golden thread-like foliage, typically about 3–5 feet tall with a similar spread. It is more compact and spreading than ‘Golden Mop’ and holds color well in warm, humid conditions.
## Growing conditions
Plant in sun to light shade; fuller sun helps the golden foliage show strongly. Choose well-drained soil and allow enough room for the mature branches to spread. The related ‘Golden Mop’ is also a gold threadleaf false cypress, but it is a distinct cultivar with its own size and form, as described by [North Carolina Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/chamaecyparis-pisifera-golden-mop/common-name/golden-mop-falsecypress/).
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and during prolonged dry weather, avoiding saturated soil. Let the shrub keep its natural outline; remove only damaged or misplaced growth. No routine shearing is needed for a compact specimen.
