About Bubba Jones Desert Willow

Chilopsis linearis ‘Bubba Jones’ is a fast-growing desert willow selection with a naturally multitrunked, relatively open crown, glossy dark green leaves, and large fragrant pink flowers. The bicolored blooms open through the warm season, and the plant produces comparatively little seed. ## Cultivar and size The exact cultivar patent identifies ‘Bubba Jones’ as a cross of ‘Bubba’ and ‘Warren Jones’ and records the patent date as November 16, 2021. It describes flowers that bloom locally from May through October and a six-year nursery specimen about 15 feet tall by 11 feet wide ([U.S. plant patent](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP33637)). [Sooner Plant Farm](https://soonerplantfarm.com/plant/desert-willow-bubba-jones) lists the cultivar at 20–25 feet tall and 18–20 feet wide, zones 6–11, with clear pink fragrant flowers in mid to late summer. ## Siting Grow in full sun and well-drained soil, with clearance for its open crown. The breeder, [Civano Growers](https://www.civanogrowers.com/civano-originals), describes it as a fast-growing, low-seed selection with glossy leaves and pollinator appeal. Sooner Plant Farm reports visits from bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. ## Maintenance Water regularly while the tree establishes, then adjust irrigation to local soils and climate. Prune selectively to train a single- or multi-trunk form and remove damaged limbs; desert willow flowers on new growth.
