About Semi Pendulous Fringe Tree

Semi-pendulous fringe tree has the fragrant, threadlike white flowers and glossy foliage of Chinese fringe tree, with a softer branching outline for a small landscape. The flowers appear in late spring, dark berries may follow, and leaves color yellow in autumn. [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/3731/chionanthus-retusus/details) · [NCSU Extension profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/chionanthus-retusus/) ## Garden Use Use it as a specimen or in a mixed shrub border where its spring flowers and autumn color can be appreciated. Leave space around the canopy for the semi-pendulous branches and for circulation beneath the tree. ## Growing Conditions Plan for a mature size of roughly 10–15 feet in height and spread. The species is adaptable to several soil textures; RHS recommends moist but well-drained ground and full sun or partial shade, with heavier flowering in a sunnier position. ## Maintenance Keep the root zone from drying completely during establishment and extended dry spells. Allow the tree to develop its natural outline, removing only damaged or crossing branches as needed; follow the RHS pruning guidance for timing.
