‘Morning Cloud’ is a deciduous chitalpa selection grown for pale pink flowers in upright clusters and an open, spreading tree form. Its mature size varies with climate and growing conditions, so allow a generous space rather than relying on a compact nursery specimen’s dimensions.
## Siting and growth
Plant in sun or partial shade in deep, well-drained soil. The [Société Nationale d’Horticulture de France](https://www.snhf.org/fiche-plante/chitalpa-de-tachkent/) identifies ‘Morning Cloud’ as a pale-flowered cultivar and gives a broad height range of 3–9 m; it recommends watering young plants well during establishment and shaping in early spring. [Utah State University Extension](https://extension.usu.edu/treebrowser/catalog/chitalpa) describes chitalpa as a heat- and drought-tolerant hybrid group suited to zones 6–9, though those general hardiness notes should be checked against local conditions and the specific selection.
## Flowers and landscape use
The trumpet-shaped summer flowers draw pollinating insects, while the hybrid’s sterile flowers do not develop seed. Use it as a small shade tree or flowering specimen with enough room for its broad crown and roots. In regions with cold winters, protect young plants and expect more dieback at the colder end of the chitalpa range.
## Maintenance
Water regularly during establishment and through extended summer dry periods. In early spring, remove dead or damaged wood and shorten selected branches only when needed to control shape.
