About Cayenne™ Red Chrysanthemum

Cayenne™ Red is a red-flowered pot mum selected for seasonal container color. Syngenta lists it as Chrysanthemum indicum, recommends full sun and small or medium pots, and reports flowering from spring through fall; the breeder notes its traditional flower form and faster flowering compared with Encino™ Red Imp ([Syngenta Flowers](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/product/flower/70078540)). ## Garden use Use it in a patio pot, entry display, or mixed seasonal container where its red blooms can be seen up close. Its medium vigor makes it a useful choice for a smaller display than a broad landscape planting. The breeder also notes potential for late-summer and fall production in high temperatures. ## Siting and water Give outdoor containers a sunny position. Check the potting mix frequently: potted mums use water readily, and Illinois Extension recommends watering when the top inch of mix is dry, while allowing excess water to drain ([Illinois Extension](https://extension.illinois.edu/blogs/over-garden-fence/2024-10-17-mums-word)). Shortening days cue chrysanthemum flowering, so strong artificial night lighting can delay bloom. ## Maintenance Keep the root ball evenly moist during active flowering and protect the container when frost is forecast. Syngenta does not assign a hardiness zone to this product, so treat it as a seasonal container mum rather than relying on an outdoor winter-survival rating.
