About Laurel leaved Rock Rose

Cistus × cyprius ‘Elma’ is an evergreen rockrose grown for glossy foliage and large, unblotched white flowers. The Royal Horticultural Society lists the plant under this name and records Cistus laurifolius ‘Elma’ among its synonyms. ## Form and flowers The [RHS plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/212859/cistus-%C3%97-cyprius-elma/details) describes a bushy shrub with dark green, lance-shaped leaves and flowers up to 10 centimeters across. It gives a mature height and spread of 1–1.5 meters. The range converts to approximately 3.3–4.9 feet in each direction, so the record preserves the full interval rather than selecting a point within it. ## Siting Choose a sunny, sheltered position with well-drained soil. The RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, and sand, and notes that the plant can grow in acid, alkaline, or neutral soil. Its hardiness rating is RHS H4; that rating is not a USDA zone and should be interpreted within the RHS system. ## Maintenance Allow the soil to drain freely and avoid disturbing the shrub once established. Remove damaged or awkward growth after flowering, and leave enough room for the mature spread.
