Kishu Mandarin Tree

Kishu is a compact-fruited mandarin selection prized for sweet, seedless fruit that peels easily. The [UCR Citrus Variety Collection](https://citrusvariety.ucr.edu/crc3906) identifies the seedless Kishu accession as Citrus kinokuni mukakukishu. Its record notes December–January ripening at Riverside. ## Fruit and form The small orange fruit is aromatic and separates readily into sections. [Four Winds Growers](https://www.fourwindsgrowers.com/products/kishu-mandarin-tree) describes this selection as self-fertile and mid-season, with fruit about walnut-sized. The recorded Riverside season is a regional observation; harvest timing varies with climate. ## Siting and care Choose a sunny, well-drained location. Four Winds recommends at least eight hours of sun and lists Zones 8–11 for in-ground growing. Protect the tree below 32°F; in Zones 4–7 it can be grown in a container and brought indoors for winter. Its semi-dwarf trees are listed at 10–15 feet in the ground and 7–8 feet in pots. Let the surface soil dry between deep waterings. ## Maintenance Prune in early spring to shape the canopy and remove dead or damaged branches.
