Create design onlineAbout Eureka Lemon Tree
Eureka lemon is a vigorous, self-fertile selection grown for tart fruit and fragrant zest. Its heaviest crop is typically in fall and winter, with some fruit produced through the year in favorable climates. The tree has fewer thorns than many traditional lemon varieties and can be pruned to fit a garden or espalier.
## Fruit and form
The [UCR Citrus Variety Collection](https://citrusvariety.ucr.edu/crc3005) documents a nucellar Eureka selection, while [Four Winds Growers](https://www.fourwindsgrowers.com/products/eureka-lemon-tree) describes its Eureka semi-dwarf tree as 10–15 feet in the ground and 6–8 feet in a pot. Actual size depends on rootstock, growing conditions, and pruning.
## Siting and care
Choose a sunny, well-drained, wind-protected position. Four Winds recommends at least eight hours of sun and lists Zones 8–11 outdoors, with protection below 32°F. In Zones 4–7, grow the tree in a container and bring it indoors in winter. Water deeply and allow the soil surface to dry between waterings.
## Maintenance
Prune in early spring to keep the canopy manageable and remove dead or damaged branches. Remove shoots below the graft union. [UC IPM](https://ipm.ucanr.edu/home-and-landscape/cultural-tips-for-growing-citrus/) offers general citrus care guidance.
