Create design onlineAbout Pixie Mandarin Tree
Pixie is a compact mandarin selection developed at UC Riverside and released for its nearly seedless, easy-to-peel fruit. The [UC Riverside Citrus Variety Collection](https://citrusvariety.ucr.edu/crc3568) describes a vigorous, upright tree and a late-season crop that can remain on the tree; local harvest dates vary with climate.
## Fruit and placement
Pixie’s sweet-tart fruit is useful for fresh eating, and its relatively small stature suits a home citrus planting or a large container. A direct [SiteOne Pixie listing](https://www.siteone.com/en/96134b-citrus-reticulata-pixie-mandarin-orange/p/1017708) gives a 4–10 foot height range, 2–6 foot spread, white flowers, and outdoor USDA zones 9a–11a. The existing pruned height and spread labels fit within those published dimensions.
## Site and growing conditions
Choose full sun and well-drained soil. Water consistently while the tree establishes and during prolonged dry periods, while allowing excess water to drain away. The [UF/IFAS home citrus guide](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/HS132) provides general landscape guidance on light, drainage, and irrigation.
## Maintenance
Protect the root zone with mulch, keeping it clear of the trunk. Prune lightly after harvest or in spring to remove dead or damaged growth and to maintain a manageable canopy. Avoid unnecessary pruning that removes flowering and fruiting wood.
