About Owari Satsuma Mandarin Tree

Owari is a widely grown satsuma mandarin with an easy-peeling fruit crop that ripens in fall. [UF/IFAS guidance on satsuma mandarins](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/CH116) describes Owari as productive and moderately vigorous, with a spreading, drooping canopy and slow growth. ## Fruit and placement Owari suits a home orchard or edible landscape, and its comparatively cold-tolerant fruit-tree type is also sold for patio growing. A nursery listing describes an approximately 8-foot pruned height and 10-foot spread; another direct listing gives USDA zones 8–11. These outdoor zones are distinct from broader container-growing claims. ## Site and growing conditions Select a sunny site with well-drained soil. Water regularly while the tree establishes and during extended dry spells, but avoid saturated soil. The [UF/IFAS home citrus guide](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/HS132) explains how full sun, drainage, and appropriate irrigation support citrus in the landscape. ## Maintenance Mulch over the root area without covering the trunk flare. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and manage suckers below the graft. Prune selectively to maintain a useful canopy and allow room to harvest. Protect container-grown trees when cold weather threatens; winter temperatures and protection needs depend on the site and rootstock.
