About Shiranui Mandarin Tree

Shiranui is a named mandarin selection within Citrus reticulata. The UCR Citrus Variety Collection records a Riverside ripening season of December through February, which can shift with climate and growing conditions. ## Fruit and season UCR describes Shiranui as a hybrid of Kiyomi tangor and Ponkan. Fruit from Shiranui introductions is often large and easy to peel, but seediness can vary with strain and nearby pollen sources; seedlessness is not guaranteed. See the [UCR cultivar record](https://citrusvariety.ucr.edu/crc4249) and the [Shiranui product profile](https://www.siteone.com/en/91565b-citrus-reticulata-shiranui-sumo-mandarin/p/744345) for selection details. ## Growing conditions Citrus grows best in full sun and a well-drained site. This subtropical tree needs protection where freezes occur regularly; a container can make seasonal shelter easier. [UF/IFAS](https://gardeningsolutions.ifas.ufl.edu/plants/edibles/fruits/citrus/) recommends regular watering while a citrus tree establishes and notes that fruit quality depends on climate and variety. ## Maintenance Remove shoots growing from below the graft because they can compete with the selected cultivar. Use local citrus guidance for fertilizer and pest care.
