Create design onlineAbout Lane Late Navel Orange
Lane Late is a late-maturing navel selection of sweet orange. The UCR Citrus Variety Collection describes it as a bud sport of Washington navel with a smoother peel and slightly smaller navel; at Riverside its fruit ripens from February through June.
## Fruit and season
Lane Late matures roughly four to six weeks after Washington navel and can remain on the tree for several months after reaching maturity before quality declines. These dates reflect Riverside, California, and will shift in other growing regions. See the [UCR Lane Late record](https://citrusvariety.ucr.edu/crc3803) for selection history and observations.
## Growing conditions
Citrus performs best in full sun and good drainage. Water young trees regularly while they establish, and provide protection where freezes occur regularly. [UF/IFAS](https://gardeningsolutions.ifas.ufl.edu/plants/edibles/fruits/citrus/) covers planting, watering, fertilizing, and cold protection for landscape citrus.
## Maintenance
Remove shoots below the graft and prune only when needed to address damage or crowding. Use local extension advice for fertilizer and pest management.
