About Sanguinelli Blood Orange Tree

‘Sanguinelli’ is a Spanish blood orange selection with deep red pigmentation in both peel and flesh and a small-to-medium, productive tree. [UCR’s Citrus Variety Collection](https://citrusvariety.ucr.edu/crc3828) identifies the selection as a limb sport of Doblefina and records December to February ripeness at Riverside. ## Fruit and flowering The fruit is juicy and may have few seeds; the rind can show pronounced red coloration. The tree is spineless or nearly so in the published cultivar descriptions. It produces fragrant white flowers in spring and is grown both for its edible crop and evergreen foliage ([UF/IFAS Extension](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/HS1500); [SiteOne](https://www.siteone.com/en/96566b-citus-sinensis-sanguinelli-blood-orange/p/1046864)). ## Siting Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Adequate moisture supports fruit development, while cool winter conditions promote stronger red color; very warm winters may produce paler flesh. The fruit is suited to fresh eating and juicing. ## Maintenance Water consistently while the tree establishes and during fruit development, then adjust to soil drainage and weather. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches after harvest and keep the canopy accessible for picking. Protect young trees during severe cold.
