Create design onlineAbout Cityline® Paris Bigleaf Hydrangea
Cityline® Paris is the compact bigleaf hydrangea cultivar ‘Paris Rapa’, bred for vivid, deep red flower clusters. It blooms in spring and summer; the breeder lists it at 12–24 inches tall by 12–36 inches wide, in USDA Zones 5–9. Its patent names ‘Paris Rapa’ and describes intense rose-colored flowers and compact growth. ## Flowers and Foliage
The ball-shaped clusters open fuchsia-red to pink, and the red color holds across most soils; acidic soil can bring out purplish centers. Dark-green foliage provides a steady backdrop through the growing season. The patent describes the original selection as compact and rose-flowered, while the breeder lists pink and red shades for the garden plant.
## Siting and Use
Grow Cityline® Paris in part sun to sun, keeping soil evenly moist and well drained. In hotter climates, afternoon protection follows general NC State guidance for bigleaf hydrangeas. Its small stature suits the front of a shrub border, a mixed container, or a mass planting; the breeder also lists cut- and dried-flower use.
## Maintenance
Routine pruning is usually unnecessary. If shaping is needed, prune just after flowering so the next season’s buds are less likely to be removed. Add compost or other organic matter to well-drained soil, water during dry periods, and provide winter protection in colder parts of its hardiness range. These care notes follow the cultivar’s breeder profile and are qualified by NC State’s broader guidance for H. macrophylla.
