About Blue Angel Clematis

Blue Angel is a free-flowering clematis with wavy pale-blue blooms that can look more violet in bright light. The [International Clematis Society profile](https://internationalclematissociety.org/clematis-blekitny-aniol-blue-angel/) identifies Blue Angel as the trade designation for the Polish cultivar ‘Błękitny Anioł’; the [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/105769/clematis-b%C5%82%C4%99kitny-aniol-ll/details) lists both names. ## Flowers and placement Flowers appear from summer into early autumn. Published height estimates differ: RHS gives about 5–8 ft, while a Polish clematis profile and the International Clematis Society describe growth reaching about 10–13 ft. Provide a sturdy fence, trellis, arbor, or pergola and allow room for a climbing vine. The pale blue-violet blooms stand out against green foliage and light walls. ## Growing conditions Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Clematis flower best when the upper growth has light and the roots stay cool and moist; shade the base with nearby plants or mulch. The Polish profile also lists large-container growing as an option. ## Maintenance Blue Angel is listed for hard pruning in group 3. Cut back hard in late winter according to local conditions, then guide new stems onto their support. Water container-grown plants regularly and avoid waterlogged soil.
