Create design onlineAbout Fleuri™ Purple Clematis
Fleuri™ is a compact, deep-purple clematis for a trellis, obelisk, or small garden support. Raymond Evison lists the exact Evipo042 selection at 3–4 ft tall, flowering from late spring to late summer, and hardy in USDA Zones 4–9.
## Flowers and placement
The dark purple flowers stand out beside pale-flowered roses or shrubs and silver or gold-variegated foliage. The breeder recommends a sunny position and also highlights container growing for patios and smaller gardens. The breeder’s listed height is 3–4 ft. Its exact profile does not give mature spread, so the existing 0.8 m spread entry remains provisional pending direct evidence.
## Growing conditions
Train the climbing stems onto an obelisk, trellis, or other fine support. The [RHS clematis guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/clematis/growing-guide) recommends keeping climbing clematis roots cool and moist in fertile, well-drained soil. In containers, check moisture more often because pots dry faster.
## Maintenance
Raymond Evison recommends cutting all stems back to about 6 inches in late winter or early spring for this cultivar. Follow that selection-specific direction rather than assuming the same schedule for every clematis. Keep the root area shaded and moist through the growing season, and tie young stems loosely as they reach their support.
