About Double Pink/ White Clematis

Josephine™ is a large-flowered climbing clematis whose correct cultivar denomination is ‘Evijohill’. Its fully double flowers form a rosette of green to creamy-green outer tepals and pink-mauve inner tepals; the breeder lists a 6–8 ft. height and flowering from late spring into early autumn. ## Flowers and identity The layered flower has broad outer tepals around a dense center of smaller tepals. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/121393/clematis-josephine-evijohill-el/details) and the breeder’s [Josephine page](https://www.raymondevisonclematis.com/products/josephine) identify ‘Evijohill’ as the cultivar denomination and Josephine as the trade name; the [Canadian variety register](https://active.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pbrpov/cropreport/cl/app00001577e.shtml) also lists Josephine as its trade name. ## Siting and support Use a trellis or let the stems climb through a shrub. The breeder recommends a bright position away from north-facing aspects and also lists container growing; its U.S. hardiness range is zones 4–9. The [RHS clematis guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/clematis/growing-guide) recommends fertile, moist but well-drained soil with cool, shaded roots. ## Maintenance The breeder advises reducing the top growth by about one-third in late winter or early spring. Water container plants regularly during active growth and keep excess water draining freely.
