Yellow Latern Clematis

Clematis ‘Helios’ is a deciduous climber with nodding, lantern-shaped yellow flowers that open into starry forms. The Royal Horticultural Society lists ‘Aztek’ and ‘Helios’ among its names for the same selection, supporting the captured ‘Helios Aztek’ identity; it flowers from summer into autumn and develops fluffy silver seedheads. ## Garden Use Give this vine a trellis, fence, or other support in full sun or partial shade. The RHS records mature height and spread of 1.5–2.5 m, equivalent to roughly 5–8 ft; the plant’s existing 1 m width point is below that selection-specific range, so the numeric width is left unresolved while the label reflects the cited range. Its bright flowers and later seedheads suit a mixed border where the climbing stems can be supported. ## Growing Conditions The RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, and sandy soils. It prefers a sunny or partly shaded position. The RHS hardiness rating is H7 and is not converted here to a USDA zone. ## Maintenance Train young stems onto their support and follow the RHS pruning guidance for clematis in pruning group 3.
