Clematis ‘Huldine’ is a vigorous deciduous climber valued for a long summer display of pearly-white flowers. The flowers can reach about 10 cm across, with pinkish-mauve bars on their undersides that show through the pale petals. [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/92677/clematis-huldine-ll/details) describes this cultivar and its size; the [International Clematis Society](https://clematisinternational.org/clematis-huldine/) profile also covers its flowering and pruning.
## Flowers and placement
Use this large-flowered cultivar to cover a wall, fence, arch, or pergola, giving its stems a support to climb. It grows in full sun or partial shade. Keep the root zone cool and evenly moist in soil that drains freely; mulch or low groundcover can shade the base.
## Size and pruning
Allow a mature climber about 2.5–4 m tall and 1.5–2.5 m wide. The RHS assigns ‘Huldine’ to pruning group 3, flowering on current-season growth. Prune in late winter or early spring, following the group-three method and retaining the framework needed for the desired shape.
## Maintenance
Water during dry spells while the plant establishes and keep the root zone from drying out. Clematis sap can irritate skin, so wear gloves when handling stems.
