Clematis ‘Perle d’Azur’ is a vigorous, deciduous climber with clear pale-blue flowers whose petal midribs are flushed purple near the base. The large flowers open from midsummer into early autumn, extending color along a wall, fence, or garden support.
## Flowers and size
The [RHS cultivar profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/98375/clematis-perle-dazur-ll/details) describes flowers 10–12.5 cm wide and a mature height of 2.5–4 m with a spread of 1–1.5 m. The live 2.5 m height is at the lower end of this range, so it is retained; the existing width is null and remains null because the source provides a range rather than a precise point. The display labels show the full ranges converted to feet.
## Siting
Grow in full sun or partial shade, in moist but well-drained soil. Keep the roots and base cool and shaded while allowing the upper vine to receive light. The RHS lists flower borders, cottage gardens, city gardens, and wall-side borders as suitable settings. Provide a sturdy support for the climbing stems.
## Maintenance
This cultivar is in pruning Group 3 and flowers on current-year growth. Cut the stems back hard in late winter or early spring to a low pair of healthy buds, then tie in new growth as it develops. Water during dry weather while avoiding waterlogged soil, and keep the root zone shaded.
