About Pink Double Clematis

Proteus is an early large-flowered clematis known for rose-purple flowers that may be semi-double or fully double in the first flush. Single flowers can follow from late summer into early autumn. The deciduous vine grows about 1.5 to 2.5 metres tall and 0.5 to 1 metre wide. (RHS) ## Growing conditions Plant in moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Keep the roots and base cool with mulch or nearby low plants, while giving flowering stems access to light. It can grow against a wall or fence and is also suitable for a spacious patio container. (RHS) ## Pruning Proteus is in pruning group 2. Remove weak or crossing growth in late winter or early spring, then lightly trim after the first flush if needed. This retains older stems that can carry the early flowers. (RHS) ## Maintenance Provide a sturdy support and water during prolonged dry weather, particularly while the plant establishes.
